Odd Apples | Special Edition
“Odd Apples" is a celebration of Malus (the apple genus), its stunning diversity, enchanting expression, and our centuries-long relationship with it. This collection, a collaboration between photographer William Mullan and designer Andrea A. Trabucco-Campos, presents 90 apple still life portraits and represents four years and three seasons of researching, reading, finding, tasting, and photographing. As you peruse, imagine yourself walking through a magical but very much real orchard curated with the beautiful, the curious, and, yes, the plain odd. In the back, you’ll find notes (botanical, historical, and personal) on each apple in alphabetical order and two stunning poems by the incredibly talented Makshya Tolbert.
“Odd Apples” presents a sliver, incomplete by nature, of apples from across the globe in an attempt to demonstrate how this fruit is a microcosm of everything that is truly incredible—in the most real sense of the word—about the plants we live with, that surround us and sustain us. It is an ode to the apple tree and its gift to us: a never-ending source of joy, wonder, and nourishment.
Each special, limited edition of “Odd Apples” comes complete with an exclusive print of the Hidden Rose apple, one of the very first portraits taken in the series.
The books are 9 × 11.22 inches, hardcover and sewn bound, with photographs by William Mullan and a cover, layout, and book design by Andrea A. Trabucco-Campos.
